A World Free from Child Poverty: A guide to the tasks to achieve the vision

Child poverty is a universal problem with devastating impacts on children and societies. This guide, by UNICEF and the Coalition to End Global Poverty, seeks to share experiences from across the world to support countries building national pathways to end child poverty and to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 1) on Ending Poverty.

Promising Practices in Integrating HIV and SRH Services for Adolescents and Young People Living with HIV

Evidence shows that adolescents and young people access to comprehensive SRH information and services leads to improved health outcomes. Currently many existing SRH services are not comprehensive and do not meet the unique needs of adolescents and young people. This promising practice brief highlights successful facility- level models that respond to the unique SRH service needs of AYPLHIV.

This document draws on data from six surveys submitted from PATA network members and partners through a call for promising models of practice in comprehensive HIV and SRH services.

Preliminary Research Into the Extent, Factors and Effects of Child Marriage.

"Every year, an estimated 15 million girls aged under 18 are married worldwide with little or no say in the matter." Child marriage as a social construct, ruptures childhood and exposes young married girls to early sexuality, pregnancy and childbearing, and has severe health and social consequences generally denying girls their rights.

This research VSO investigated the extent and factors that cause child marriages in three countries: Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

The research explores the impact of child marriage, the causes of child marriage, the legal framework age of marriage and the countries responses to reduce child marriage. 

Key recommendations include:  

  • The developing and implementing of national action plans to end child marriage
  • Empowering girls to mitigate against child marriage
  • Community mobilization against child marriage
  • Provision of services to mitigate against child marriage
  • Advocacy for countries to address the problem of child marriage
  • Enabling legal and policy environment
