RIATT-ESA conducts research to improve understanding and build the evidence base around the kinds of interventions which are most effective in improving outcomes for children made vulnerable by HIV and AIDS in the family. Related to this is how children's health, protection, care and support are interrelated. The resultant policy briefs aim to inform policies and programmes for children affected by HIV.
In October 2016 RIATT-ESA and partners developed anadvocacy brief on the need for programming and policy alternatives to address stigma and discrimination among adolescents living with HIV.
This report looks at the evidence on the effectiveness of social protection for ART adherence and HIV-related outcomes for children and adolescents in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Annual Regional Learning and Linking Forum for Accelerating Delivery of Comprehensive Services for Orphans and Vulnerable Children & Youth in Eastern and Southern Africa
Ahead of the 5th Psychosocial Support Forum (PSS Forum), happening on the 27-29 August 2019, REPSSI in partnership with RIATT-ESA and other co-hosts are hosting the bi-annual Children and Youth Forum.
In 2018 RIATT-ESA carried-out a strategic planning exercise to review the course of the epidemic and the gaps in the children’s response in policy and programmes in the region. The new RIATT-ESA Strategy aims to address the gaps in the HIV response by responding to specific drivers of the resurgence of HIV infection among children, youth and young key populations.
