In the years of implementing the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Care and Support for Teaching and Learning (CSTL) programme, its become increasing apparent that there is a major gap in the delivery of school-based care and support to boys and young men and this gap is hindering regional goals for gender equality, HIV reduction and improved educational outcomes for all children.
Limited existing literature on boys and young men point to a dearth of evidence on the specific vulnerabilities of boys in schools, and what might be effective in addressing the vulnerabilities of this subgroup. Therefore, an exploratory regional research study was commissioned by SDC, to better understand the key issues and identify recommendations for future school-based programming.
