In this article published by the Lancet, the authors argue that the international health systems such as WHO and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria could achieve more and better results now and after 2015, the target year for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). While acknowledging the efforts made by global health organisations, the article claims that the sum of their collective resources is still not achieving as much as we would like in terms of improved health for poor people. It calls for international systems to rethink the role of health in development so that they can better respond to country priorities, needs and contexts.
